The Broadcroft Hotel, Kirkintilloch - Laura & Calum

The Broadcroft Hotel is one of the closest wedding venues to me, so when Laura told me that they were getting married right in Kirkintilloch, I jumped at the chance to shoot so close to home.

The Broadcroft itself is a lovely venue with incredible views of the Campsies (the wee hills north of Glasgow!), but its central location in Kirkintilloch means it’s easy to access for those coming from elsewhere.

Laura & Calum had only been engaged a week when we started speaking about what they’d want from their wedding photographer but had made it clear from the start that a relaxed experience was key as neither were fans of having their photo taken normally.

(Spoiler - Both Laura & Calum were absolute rockstars the whole day!)

Laura & Calum had chosen Melanie Leckie as their celebrant, and it became clear from the start of the ceremony that they had picked well. Melanie had put together a beautiful ceremony and one that had the guests laughing and smiling throughout, as she spoke of Laura & Calum’s journey to the day.

Looking back through my photos from the day, one thing that stands out is how smiley Laura & Calum were throughout the day, there’s barely a single photo in which they aren’t smiling at each other.

This was echoed by the rest of the wedding party and the guests who made the absolute most of the day together.

Whilst it might have been Laura & Calum’s day, Limoncello stood out as one of the main themes of the day. Calum has been a huge fan of it and had managed to convince Laura to put a twist on the classic drinking from a Quaich.

So the Whiskey was subbed out & the Limoncello was used in its place.

After the ceremony, we got some quick Family photos before braving the frosty weather outside and doing a surprise confetti tunnel.

A tip for making the most of your group photo time is to assign a groomsman or bridesmaid (who’ll enjoy herding everyone), to help prepare the next set of people for the group shots.

If you get a good helper for this, it can save lots of time and will 100% make that part of the day run smoothly!

Post Confetti tunnel, there was a brisk walk back inside the Broadcroft for the guests to have a drink before it was time for speeches and dinner.

To give you an idea of how good the food was, Calum had given his vote for the Broadcroft Hotel on the basis that their wedding menu includes an incredible Lentil & Carrot soup that he’d tried before.

I’m pleased to confirm to you, it does indeed live up to the hype.

With it being winter in Scotland, it’s important to consider how the light will affect the schedule for a wedding this time of year.

Laura & Calum made it clear from the first call I had with them, that they were totally happy with staying inside, and opted to shoot portraits after dinner. This was perfect and gave them extra time with their guests before dinner, which they otherwise wouldn’t have had the time.

We spent around 15 minute on couples portraits, which allowed us to grab a couple of angles, without keeping Laura & Calum away from the party for too long.

Cake & Party

Time for one of my favourite parts of the day. After a quick cake cutting (check out the Caterpillar cakes), it was time for the first dance.

The first dance was quickly followed by the 2nd & 3rd, thanks to Stephen, who was Laura & Calums DJ for the evening.

Stephen kept the wedding party up on the dance floor and even presented Laura with some flowers for a bouquet throw.

This surprise moment led to possibly my favourite sequence of photos from the day.

A massive thank you to Laura & Calum for putting your trust in me, and of course a massive shout out to my fellow wedding suppliers:
